The Unknown Woman Who Helped Create The Atom Bomb
Lise Meitner played a crucial role in the discovery of nuclear fission but was deeply troubled by its use in the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, causing her to distance herself from its development. Meitner was a pioneering physicist, overcoming significant barriers as a Jewish woman in science, including being one of the first women to study physics in Vienna and working in Berlin despite initial restrictions. Her collaboration with Otto Hahn, a chemist, was highly successful, blending their expertise in physics and chemistry, and led to the discovery of nuclear fission.
