The film discusses how the Royal Navy will protect merchant shipping “if war should come.”<br /> <br /> The SS Ionian was a 3114 ton British steam merchant operated by Ellerman & Papayanni Lines of Liverpool. Ironically, this would be her last peacetime voyage. She was sunk by a German naval mine laid by uboat U22 1.5 miles 132° from Newarp Lightship on 23 November 1939.
