War on the Eastern Front: Siege of Leningrad
The Siege of Leningrad lasted from September 1941 to January 1944, 872 days during which the city was completely cut off. Hundreds of thousands of civilians faced extreme hunger and unimaginable hardship. Relief finally began to arrive in 1942 via Lake Ladoga, but it was far from enough to save everyone. More than a million lives were lost, making it one of the darkest chapters of the Second World War. Credit to : World at War
