The Ghana Empire thrived in West Africa for several centuries, ranging from around the 6th to the 13th century CE. It’s important to note that the empire is not connected to modern Ghana. The Ghana empire was situated in the western Sudan savannah region, encompassing present-day southern Mauritania, Senegal, and Mali. This land was nestled between the Sahara Desert to the north and lush rainforests to the south.
