The Last Ship to Bring Enslaved Africans to America Arrived in 1860

History Documentaries

By 1860, the US was no longer officially involved in the international slave trade. That same year, an illegal slave ship, Clotilde, arrived in Mobile, Alabama, carrying the last slaves to be brought to America, from Africa. In 2018, editor Deborah Plant published a forgotten book by acclaimed African-American writer Zora Neale Hurston. It told the true story of the Clotilde.
